Take Ryo to the Tao Get Store just over the Verdant Bridge. Ryo will need to earn some Yuan first so that he'll have enough to buy gambling tokens. The prize exchanges and pawn shops are close to one another for convenience. The prizes may then be sold for Yuan, the currency of the land. Gambling will allow him to earn tokens that he can use to redeem for prizes. This monetary minimum will allow Ryo to purchase expensive wine for a local martial arts master and progress onto the next area. To proceed beyond Bailu, Ryo must make at least 2,000 Yuan. Shenmue 3 picks up in Bailu village, where Ryo must again earn money to fund his journey to confront Lan Di.
